Coroners statistics 2024: England and Wales

The Coroners statistics for England and Wales for 2024 were published on 8 May 2025. These show a decrease in the number of deaths reported to Coroners in 2024; 31% of all registered deaths were reported; 11% increase in deaths in state detention; post-mortem examinations were carried out in 46% of all deaths reported; inquests were down by 1% with the average time taken to process an inquest down slightly to 31.2 weeks; there was an increase of 25% in the Prevention of Future Deaths reports issued.
