LARCSA Lunch & Learn – Predatory Marriage – A Hidden Crime – 23 June 2026 – 13:00-14:00pm

Join us for an engaging session with Daphne Franks. This session will highlight the safeguarding risks where vulnerable individuals—particularly those living with dementia—may be exploited into marriage. It will explore the critical role registrars play in using professional judgement when assessing mental capacity.Daphne will emphasise a human-centred approach, encouraging registrars to look beyond process to identify signs of coercion, imbalance, or a lack of understanding.The session will also call for reform of marriage law and procedures, including stronger links to wills and probate protections, as well as greater transparency—such as the online display of marriage notices and banns.
