Sham Marriages: Referrals and Best Practice

Join us for a practical and informative session covering the Marriage Referral Scheme, Section 24 referrals, and best practice for identifying, managing and recording suspected sham marriage cases. The session will provide an overview of current legislation, referral processes and the important role Registration Officers play in supporting the integrity of the registration service. Attendees will gain a greater understanding of the indicators that may suggest a sham marriage or civil partnership, how to confidently manage sensitive conversations, and the procedures that should be followed when concerns are identified. Participants will also learn about the support, guidance and resources available from the Home Office External Training Team, helping Registration Services strengthen knowledge, build confidence and maintain compliance with statutory requirements.
